Many years of archaeological excavations of farms and graves, as well as harbours from Viking time and Middle Ages have given us a good base for understanding the Vikings in all its different senses.
The summer 2007 was the start of a new excavation project, called Viking Discovery Programme. The project focus on the Viking farm itself. So far, there have been very few excavation concerning farmsteads, and the project aim at reaching a new and broad knowledge about the Viking Age farm on Gotland. Summer 2007, the course was carried out at a place called Klints, with some fascinating results. The summer 2008, there will be excavations at another Viking Age farm in the same parish.
Gotland Silver Island!
I have many times been talking about the interesting fact of all the Viking silver hoards found on the island of Gotland (more then 700 until today, being 2/3 of all hoards from the whole of Sweden). Last autumn I made some investigations of places where silver hoards had been found earlier. Just to give you an example of what we found, please check out this pdf file. I am planning, in the near future, to make a CD-R about silver hoards from Gotland.
